Comic-Con, which had been hinting of a move out of San Diego, will instead stay in the city through at least 2018.
The news came in a press conference Thursday morning by San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer.
The event brings in over 130,000 attendees and last year raked in nearly $180 million dollars for the San Diego economy. The event has grown so big, that it has outgrown the space at The San Diego Convention Center. The city has been working on an expansion, but that has been delayed by litigation over how construction will be funded.
“There is strong support to expand our convention center, we will be expanding our convention center… we will continue to grow, and Comic-Con will continue to grow with us in San Diego,” a confident Faulconer said Thursday.
