Those campaigning for the Coachella Valley’s congressional seat filed fundraising numbers on Thursday with the Federal Election Commission and, while two of the candidates took in hundreds of thousands of dollars, another lags far behind.
Incumbent Raul Ruiz raised nearly $500,000 reports the Desert Sun. The Democrat’s campaign has over $2 million in the bank (which seems like more than enough to at least lease a better car).
On the Republican side, Kimberlin Brown Pelzer, a soap star who totally lives in the desert, raised more than $175,000. Former TV person Dan Ball raked in far less, with only $15,450 taken in during the 4th quarter of 2017.
Ball’s campaign, who announced the endorsement of former representative Mary Bono on Thursday, says they remain confident despite lagging so far behind in donations – which makes sense as the candidate with the most money wins Just 94 percent of the time.
