Two people were arrested on Tuesday after a high speed pursuit through Yucca Valley.
Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over a Ford Explorer with expired tags a little after 8 am at Joshua Lane and Onagg Trail, according to the Hi-Desert Star. The Explorer did not pull over and instead drove east at speeds of over 85 mph.
The chase went into Joshua Tree where the car stopped due to a vehicle malfunction on Outpost Road. Two passengers were detained, but the driver, identified as Nathan Brown, took off on foot. Deputies chased him and found him later hiding in a large tree.
Police said in a press release that they found “copious amounts” of suspected methamphetamines inside the Ford and in the areas where Brown ran. They also say they found a large amount of currency along with scales and baggies.
Brown, 33, faces charges of evading the police with a disregard for public safety and transporting drugs. He is being held without bail as he is also accused of violating the terms of his previous release from jail.
Bronte Granell, 26 of Yucca Valley, a passenger in the vehicle is being held on a charge of drug transportation. She was sentenced to five years of probation last month for committing fraud to get government aid and is now accused of violating her probation.
Another passenger in the vehicle, a Yucca Valley man, was not charged.
