Let’s face it, Costco’s free samples would be so much better if not for the other shoppers. It is amazing how even the most sane person can completely lose their marbles when they spot a free slice of sausage or a sliver of ice cream sandwich being put out in between the books and Christmas decorations (yes, those are already being put out).
Some shoppers will cut you off with their cart to get to the free samples of corn chips. Others will just leave their carts blocking the entire aisle while grabbing their sample of cheese from a nice old lady wearing a shower cap. The whole thing can be totally ridiculous – especially when the store is flooded with free samples around Thanksgiving time.
For one 24-year-old Burbank man, the free Costco samples actually led to his arrest – and all because he was taking too many damn waffles! Via ABC 7:
A 24-year-old Burbank man has been charged with elder abuse after allegedly punching a fellow Costco shopper over free Nutella waffle samples.
Witnesses say Derrick Gharabighi assaulted a 78-year-old man who scolded him for taking too many free samples.
Cops say the victim was hospitalized with a one-inch cut and swelling above his eye. His name was not released, but it should be, because he is a real hero. It is one sample per person people! And, when someone calls you out, you do not get to hit them!
I want a statue of this hero outside of all Costcos shaming those who may even think about tormenting other shoppers and abusing the free Costco samples from now on!
Gharabighi is expected to appear in court this week.
