Couple passed out with child in car arrested at La Quinta Walmart

A man and woman from Yucca Valley were arrested on Friday after police say they were passed out in a car with a five-year-old child in the back seat in a Walmart parking lot.

Police were called to the parking lot about 6:30 pm, according to KMIR. According to officers, passed out inside the car were Jeremiah Fraser, 31, and Karina Townsend, 31. Also in the car was Townsend’s 5-year-old son.

Temperatures at that time were over 100 degrees.

Fraser was in possession of heroin and under the influence of a controlled substance, according to police – who say that Townsend was under the influence of alcohol. Both were asleep due to their intoxication, reports Z107.7.

Fraser was arrested for investigation of being under the influence of a controlled substance, child endangerment, and a probation violation. Townsend was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

Child Protective Services was called and took custody of the boy.
