A man was arrested in Temecula on Tuesday after he tried to run over several people in a Food 4 Less parking lot. His Aunt says the whole thing started because he tried to stop his girlfriend from stealing beer.

Video shows a bunch of people in the grocery store’s parking lot surrounding and hitting a vehicle, while the driver revs his engine.  The driver then backs his car up and appears to strike a woman.

“From the footage and from what I can see, it looks like he hit her but not too hard,” witness Amy Mining told CBS 2. “He was insane at that point. He was sitting there laughing and crying at the same time.”

The incident started when a man and his girlfriend were fighting and several witnesses tried to step in and protect her, according to ABC 7.

His aunt told CBS 2 that he and his girlfriend were arguing because she tried to steal beer and he told her to put it back.

The man drove away from the parking lot, after doing donuts, but police caught up with him a short distance away.

Brian Ferrer, 25, was arrested on a charge of assault with deadly weapon.

Temecula Police Chief Jeff Kubel said Wednesday the suspect’s girlfriend and another female  were injured during the incident, with the Press Enterprise reporting that their injuries were “moderate”.  Both were treated at the scene and released.
