A man is dead after he struck a concrete pole in a Rancho Mirage parking lot on Wednesday.
Deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a downed cyclist near the intersection of Dinah Shore Drive and Monterey Avenue a little after 8 am, according to a news release. The arrived to find a man in need of medical attention and he was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed the cyclist was traveling east on Dinah Shore Drive when he veered off the roadway and into a parking lot – where he struck a concrete pole.
The identification of the cyclist is pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators are looking to determine the cause of the collision and asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has further information to call Deputy Francis Avila of the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600.
