Desert Hot Springs high school football game canceled after a fight in the crowd that involved a player.

The game was cancelled after the fight, according to KMIR.  A player was detained but want not arrested.

“I’ve never seen this before,” Coachella Valley head coach Brett Davis told the Desert Sun. “We watched the whole thing. I saw a lot of their players run up in there. It’s too bad.  You never see anything like this. This is crazy.”

The newspaper reports that a wide receiver from Desert Hot Springs went into the crowd after he saw someone take a swing at his dad.

The Palm Springs Unified School District released a statement about why they cancelled the game (via KESQ):

“The Principal assessed the situation and decided that in the best interest for the safety of spectators and players to cancel the game” – PSUSD

There is not word on how many people may have been injured in the ruckus.

It was Senior Night at the High School.
