Desert Ridge Academy security guard arrested for allegedly sending inappropriate texts to student

A man who worked as a security guard at an Indio middle school was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to a student.

James Arthur Campbell, a guard at Desert Ridge Academy, was booked on suspicion of three misdemeanors: sending harmful matter to a minor, child annoyance, and making annoying or harassing phone calls, according to KMIR.

Campbell, a Bermuda Dunes resident, was immediately placed on leave pending the results of the investigation after Desert Sands Unified School District officials became aware of the alleged texts at the beginning of the week. The district is now cooperating with police in the investigation.

“A student filed a complaint that James Arthur Campbell, a security guard with the district, was exchanging inappropriate messages with the student,” Mary Perry, the spokesperson for Desert Sands Unified School District, told KESQ.

Record show that Campbell, 45, was released on $30,000 bail.
