Did you happen to find a random assault rifle lying around recently? If so, it is probably an Orange County sheriff’s deputy’s and the department would really like it back.
The Sheriff’s Department claims that a deputy put the AR-15 rifle, in a case at the time and with 3 loaded magazines, on the truck of his cruiser. The deputy became distracted and the drove off, reports ABC 7.
It is believed that he lost the weapon at about 7 p.m. on Tuesday, but did not realize that the weapon was missing until after 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The rifle was lost somewhere in both Aliso Viejo or Laguna Hills.
Investigators using bloodhounds have searched the area, but have been unsuccessful.
The department did not comment on whether the deputy was placed on leave or was suspended from his duties.
If you should know where the rifle is, they ask that you call the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at (714) 647-7000.
