Editor’s Note: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Kristen Kelly aboard The Cactus Hugs party with her first post!
This weekend is the 1st Palm Springs Tattoo Convention being held downtown at the Hard Rock Hotel – Palm Springs. I’m excited to see what it’s all about as I’ve been to a number of tattoo expos in South Florida – plus, I have 3 tattoos of my own with a total of 12 hours of work in all. Tattoo conventions can be a blast, but if you’re attending as a newbie, here are a few things you should know.
DO: Double check the spelling on any tattoo you plan to get involving words.
DON’T: Ask anyone who has tattoos if getting one hurts.
DO: Just got new ink? Great! Pay attention to the care directions for your new tat!
DON’T: Ask for a discount. It’s insulting to the tattoo artist. Plus, as the saying goes, “Good tattoos aren’t cheap and cheap tattoos aren’t good.”
DO: Put some thought into your tattoo or you might end up with something you’ll regret.
DON’T: Ask someone if you can touch their tattoo; newly inked or otherwise. Wanna know what it feels like? Rub your own lower back, arm, hip, etc…
DON’T: Cry while getting your tattoo. No one, including your tattoo artist, wants to hear it. You’ll probably just get laughed at. So. Just. Don’t.
DON’T: Pretend that just because you got that one, quarter sized, chinese symbol, that your life is now all about tattoos and badassery.
DO: Let me know your thoughts throughout the weekend with your comments here and on my FB page.
