Driver gets beaten with ‘The Club’ after putting away his machete during argument, say police

A heated argument between two drivers in Pasadena left one man hospitalized Monday night.

Two men stopped at an ARCO gas station at the intersection of Los Robles and Walnut about 7:15 pm, according to PasadenaNow.com. One of the drivers got out of their car holding a machete, the other driver stepped out of his car with a The Club, foot-long metal vehicle anti-theft device.

At some point, the driver with the machete went to put it on the ground – which is when police say the man with the pole hit him in the head six to seven times.

Michael Barnes, 44, of Pasadena, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The Press Enterprise reports that the victim, who was not named, is in sable condition.
