In just a couple of weeks it will be time to “spring forward” – which means longer days and a lot of pissed off people who just lost an hour of sleep.  But, the practice of Daylight Saving Time may soon come to an end in California if a state lawmaker has his way.

Californians have been part of Daylight Saving Time for the last 67 years, which San Jose Assemblyman Kansen Chu said he believes needs to stop – and mostly for the benefit of the old people.

“I heard some complaints last year from some of the senior citizens (in my district) and their care providers who say this one-hour difference really impacted their lives,” Chu told the Sacramento Bee.

Chu also said that there is evidence that more workplace accidents happen because of the time change and that it also does not decrease energy consumption.

So Chu has introduced Assembly Bill 2496 – which would end Daylight Saving Time. You can read his proposal here.  Then, check out John Oliver’s hilarious take on the issue:

Daylight Saving Time begins on March 13th – and let’s hope this is the last time.
