A former Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputy pleaded guilty to nine counts of having sex with female inmates earlier this month.
Sheriff’s investigators, working on a tip, arrested Derryberry for a series of charges including sexual battery and sexual penetration by force or duress with a female prisoner in July, 2016, according to NBC Los Angeles. Prosecutors said Derryberry forced himself on inmates at the Morongo Basin Station jail.
Derryberry, who was married with a 1-year-old at the time, was fired by the department and has since been working as a real estate agent after posting bail.
At a sentencing on December 4, Derryberry was sentenced to 35 years in state prison, but he will have a second sentencing hearing on February 1. According to Z107.7, if Derryberry is not arrested again before then, the judge will dismiss the nine charges and the 35-year sentence. Derryberry will then plead guilty to one count of sodomy and one count of making a criminal threat, and be sentenced to two years in state prison.
