Will Smith will be given Variety’s Creative Impact in Acting Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January.
The actor is starring in the new film Concussion, which is being released Christmas Day, and also has received Academy Award nominations in acting for his work in Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness. Hopefully, everyone treats him better than they did on his last trip to Palm Springs.
Variety will also be honoring director Charlie Kaufman with the Creative Impact in Directing Award for his film Anomalisa. His co-director in the film was named as one of the “10 Directors to Watch” at the festival.
The other names on the “10 Directors to Watch” list include Don Cheadle (Miles Ahead), Deniz Gamze Erguven (Mustang), Alex Garland (Ex Machina), Ciro Guerra (Embrace of the Serpent), Slavek Horak (Home Care), Peter Landesman (Concussion), Laszlo Nemes (Son of Saul), Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic) and Elizabeth Wood (White Girl).
