The GoFundMe account set up to raise funds for the victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting is nearing 9 million dollars collected.
As of this post, the account, created by Steve Sisolak, the Clark County Commission chair from Las Vegas, has raised over $8.7 million. Sisolak contributed $10,000 to start the campaign.
Since then others large donations have come in – including $400,000 from Stephen J. Cloobeck and $50,000 each from both the Oakland Raiders and the NFL Foundation. Separately, Wayne Newton and his wife, Kathleen, gave $100,000, according to The New York Daily News and MGM Resorts International CEO Jim Murren announced a $3 million donation. Murren’s company owns the Mandalay Bay.
KTLA notes other celebrities listed on the GoFundMe list include Mike Tyson, Florida Georgia Line, Kid Rock, and The Chainsmokers.
The money “has been donated by generous people around the country that… care about what we’re doing,” Sisolak said in a news conference on Monday evening.
“The hate that this one individual, this lone wolf, rained down on our community and on the MGM Village park was met with an outpouring of love by our entire community. And we will get through this together.”
