Anyone from The Coachella Valley headed to Las Vegas this weekend (or the next few weekends) should do everything possible to avoid the “Cajon Crawl.”
Cal-Trans is shutting down northbound lanes of the 15 Freeway, between Highway 138 and Oak Hill Road, from 10 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. Monday reducing traffic to two and sometimes only one lane.
It is the first of 5 weekends of road work to this section of the 15 to replace old concrete slabs – although drivers will be spared during Labor Day weekend as no construction is scheduled.
So if your are headed to Las Vegas from The Palm Springs area – go through Amboy. Not only will you avoid the traffic nightmare but you will also get to see a bit of historic Route 66 – and that is actually all you will see since there is pretty much nothing else until State Line. So make sure you are gassed up before you leave Twentynine Palms. .
