A 53-year-old man was arrested in the small San Bernardino County town of Muscoy on Friday after a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old cousin.
Police arrested the man, the victim’s grandfather, on suspicion of leaving his gun in a spot accessible to the children, according to the LA Times.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Duffy Street about 9 am. They found a girl with gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital, where she died a little after 10 am.

“When they brought her out, she had a little patch right here over her chest. It didn’t look like a big hole. They were pumping it as they put her in the ambulance,” shared witness Columbus McBath.

The boy allegedly involved in the shooting was visibly distraught as he was carried out of the home, according to ABC 7. There were several adults in the home when the shooting happened.
Cesar Lopez, 53, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.
