Now this may surprise you, some grandparents are not the best with technology. I know, right? Well, a grandma in Arizona was sending out text messages to invite family members to Thanksgiving dinner and, I know this is going to surprise you, she sent an invite to the wrong phone number. But, now the teenager who got the text is going to dinner at that grandma’s house – which is awesome.
Jamal Hinton, 17, told KNXV that he got a text message inviting him to Thanksgiving, but had no idea who it was from. Rather than ignore it, he asked who it was. The sender replied that it was his grandma.
Jamal was pretty sure it was not his grandma, but just to make sure he asked for a picture to prove it and, when the woman sent a photo, it was pretty clear she was not.
But here is where things get great:
“(You’re) not my grandma,” Jamal replied with a laughing emoji. Jamal sent back a selfie to let her know he was not her grandson.
“We established we weren’t related, but I said, ‘Hey, why not ask for a plate since the offer is there?'” Jamal said.
The woman only known as grandma replied with “Of course — that’s what grandma does — feed everyone.”
Jamal says that he will indeed go to her Thanksgiving (as well as Thanksgiving at his family’s place) and now that word has gotten out, more people have tried to get invited to grandma’s house as well (her name has not been made public). They won’t be, since she has since changed her number.
As for Jamal, he is glad he got the wrong text.
“I thought, ‘Wow, this lady is really nice,'” he said. “Any other person would probably blow me off, and be like, ‘No, never text my number again,’ but she was actually pretty nice and sweet about it.”
