A 31-year-old man was arrested early Saturday morning in Wildomar after police say he stole a cop car and led police on a short pursuit.

A Sheriff’s Deputy parked the locked cruiser at the Inland Valley Medical Center at about 2:40 am, reports the Press Enterprise.

Alvin Smith Jr. then stole the car, say police – but was quickly spotted in the area.

There was a short chase, but Smith was quickly taken into custody at 3am.

He was arrested for suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, evading a peace officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition.
