Former President Obama, who used to occasionally visit Rancho Mirage before it was cool for a President to spend millions of dollars to secretly golf every weekend, has been rumored for some time to have discreetly purchased a home in Rancho Mirage, despite their being no proof of such purchase. Now, the guy who the Obamas have stayed with in Rancho Mirage says that, nope, there was never any purchase of a home – so you probably won’t be seeing Barack and Michelle as regulars at Cheesecake Factory Happy Hour just yet.
“They clearly like the desert, but they’ve never even looked for a house, and my house is certainly not for sale,” interior designer Michael S. Smith told the Hollywood Reporter.
Smith, who was the Obama’s White House designer and his partner, ex-ambassador James Costos, would probably know this – as the Obamas have stayed at their home numerous times – and now Smith says he would like to see the rumor put to an end.
“It’s the real estate story that will not die. It would be great to put it to rest.”
