A horse that slipped off a trail near Palm Springs was air-lifted out of a ravine on Sunday.
Riverside’s Horse Animal Rescue Team – a group of firefighters and police – responded after reports of two injured horses, according to the Press Enterprise.
The horses had fallen into the ravine on Saturday night and their owners had stayed with them overnight until rescue crews had enough daylight to conduct a rescue operation.
The rescue team used a helicopter to find the horses and administer aid. During the operation, one of the horses slipped further down the ravine and suffered a traumatic head injury and died.
The other horse was hoisted out of the ravine with a helicopter and taken to safety.
