The Palm Springs International Film Festival, an event organized for wealthy people that is given $350,000 in taxpayer dollars by the City of Palm Springs annually, begins this week with the awards gala.

Here is a list of famous people who will be given acclaim and awards for acting for a living – all while other, non-famous people who coughed up $2,500 for a VIP Platinum ticket, get to sit near them and, if they are lucky, take a selfie with to impress their grandkids and housekeeper:

  • Christian Bale
  • Cate Blanchett
  • Steve Carell
  • Bryan Cranston
  • Matt Damon
  • Johnny Depp
  • Michael Fassbender
  • Ryan Gosling
  • Brie Larson
  • Rooney Mara
  • Tom McCarthy
  • Saoirse Ronan
  • Alicia Vikander

For those who lacked the sufficient funds to get into the gala (minimum ticket to the sold out event was $350 for seats in the back) to see the famous people up close and personal – the city is usually kind enough to set some bleachers up, behind a fence and across the street, where the 99% might just be lucky enough to see some of them get out of the car.
