Facing charges of bribery and perjury which could result in 19 years in jail, former Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet released a statement to KESQ on Thursday through his lawyer.

“Steve Pougnet is very proud of his service as Mayor of Palm Springs. He always worked with the best of Palm Springs in trying to rebuild the downtown. He made all the financial disclosures required of him. In the final analysis, although no one likes being charged with a crime he welcomes the opportunity to demonstrate that he did nothing wrong.”

Pougnet, who currently resides in Colorado, is expected to appear in court next week.

There has been no word yet from the two developers who were also charged on Thursday, Richard Meaney and John Wessman.
