An infant is dead and two adults hospitalized after a Porsche fell 200 feet down the side of mountain on Highway 74.
Armani Green, 5 months old, of Rancho Mirage was killed in the crash, reports KESQ.
The Porsche was headed down the mountain about 8 a.m. on Sunday morning when it crashed through a barrier and down a cliff near Vista Point. Green was thrown from the car during the crash and police are investigating if the child was on someone’s lap in the car as the car only had two seats and two seatbelts, according to KMIR.
A man and woman were airlifted to a hospital where she was treated for a serious back injury. The man suffered only minor injuries.
“It’s still under investigation just how the collision occurred,” California Highway Patrol officer Stephanie Hamilton told KMIR. “I am assuming speed was a factor. This is a winding road. As we know, local residents, we take a lot of collisions that occur up here. But just based on the fact, the way the collision happened, the physical evidence, it does appear that speed was a factor.”
The man and woman’s names were not released – but The Desert Sun reports that the Porsche is registered in Thermal.
