Indio Police are looking for a driver they say struck a family’s vehicle then fled.

The crash happened on Saturday night about 7:40 pm on Monroe and Oleander. A 1999 black Ford Expedition hit a Jeep carrying a family, according to KMIR.

Following the crash, an eight-year-old was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The child’s mother was also hospitalized as she was showing signs of labor. She delivered her baby in the hospital. Both mother and child are in stable condition.

The driver of the Expedition is described as a Hispanic male adult who was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. He fled the crash site on foot.

The Indio Police Department went on Facebook Live to discuss the crash Sunday night.
