A 22-year-old Indio man was arrested Tuesday after police say he carjacked a vehicle on the 10 freeway in Thousand Palms.

When a sheriff’s deputy stopped a car at 9:30 am at Varner Road and Ramon Road, the passenger of the car got out and ran onto the 10 freeway, reports The Desert Sun.

The man, identified as Felipe Vargas-Lopez then stopped a few cars before eventually getting into one of them and threatening the driver to speed off, according to the Press Enterprise.

The car exited at Cook St. in Palm Desert, where Vargas-Lopez jumped out and ran into a nearby business complex, where he was arrested on suspicion of resisting a police officer, felony carjacking and an outstanding felony warrant.
