Investigation underway after more than two dozen sickened at Riverside County wedding

More than two dozen wedding guests became ill, five of them seriously ill, during a reception on Saturday night. The incident is now the focus of a criminal investigation.

CalFire was called to San Timoteo Canyon Road about 8pm. As the Press Enterprise notes, there is only one wedding venue in that area: Country Feels Ranch.

Guests were taken by ambulance and police bus to hospitals. Five guests with major injuries, nine with moderate injuries, and 12 with minor injuries. A fire department spokesman told City News Service that five of the people hospitalized were vomiting violently.

A woman who wished not to be identified told Patch that “most of us tested positive for cannabinoid” at the hospital, though none of them had purposely consumed the drug.   She added that she and her friends “felt super drunk” along with being confused and dizzy.   

“This was when the DJ was trying to do the toast… people puking and crying, going pale,” she told Patch of the scene.

The bride’s father told CBS Los Angeles that everyone who was taken to the hospital is now out and home.  He added that Country Feels is a venue only and catering was brought in from the outside.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating with the department looking into whether a crime was involved. had taken over the investigation.
