You can have some beers and support a good cause on Friday night as La Quinta Brewing Company will be honoring the life of Zoey Ebersole, who recently passed away due to a rare form of Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, and raising funds for her favorite non-profit.
Zoey’s condition left her in a wheelchair and at risk for serious complications throughout her childhood. When she turned 8-yeard-old, despite her physical limitations, Zoey found a way to use her condition as a platform to change her communities perception of young people with disabilities.
Zoey was a special guest speaker during local summer camps, teaching other Coachella Valley kids about compassion and what it means to be unique. Every January, Zoey participated in the “Day of Acceptance,” a nation-wide social media event that helps to draw awareness and encourages understanding towards those facing disabilities through its message of the 3 E’s: embrace, empower, educate.
She was also an active member of the Rubies Special Needs Cheer Team at PowerKids Center as well as an Honor Roll Student at school. Her cheer coach Josh Stevens said, “Very few actually get to meet an angel while on earth. We were all blessed to be a part of that small group.”
After spending Zoeys 8th birthday in Loma Linda Children’s Hospital in December of 2016, her family made a life changing decision. They sold their home and all of their possessions and, determined to live life to the fullest as a family, they decided they would live the next year out of their RV.
They wanted to spend every day together as a family making life an adventure at every new stop. They asked Zoey to make a “bucket list” of all the things she would want to see or do during that time.
On September 14th, while the family was camping, Zoey unexpectedly stopped breathing. After being transported to the hospital she passed away surrounded by family.
This Friday, you can honor Zoey and make a donation to Rubies Special Needs Cheer Team as a $1 from every beer poured will go to the non-profit. Donations will also be accepted and a raffle will also be taking place.
