La Quinta man, high on shrooms, breaks into Yucca Valley Mexican restaurant: police

An 18-year-old from La Quinta was arrested early Friday morning after police say he broke into a a Yucca Valley Mexican restaurant while high on mushrooms and destroyed items inside the eatery.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary in progress call at La Casita Restaurant a little after 2:30 am, reports KESQ. Employees who were cleaning up after closing told police that the man broke into the restaurant. Police say they arrived to find the suspect destroying items.

Police attempted to arrest the suspect, but he resisted and ended up assaulting a deputy in the process, says the Sheriff’s Department. The suspect was later found to be under the influence of hallucinogen mushrooms and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

After being released from the hospital, Erick Ramirez-Ortega was arrested for Battery on a Peace Officer and Burglary.

There was no information about any potential injuries or the extent of damage to the restaurant.
