Authorities found 11 dead pit bulls in a Riverside County home on Wednesday along with rooms filled with trash and feces.
A neighbor of the house in La Sierra called to complain about the stench of the house on Tuesday. Officials obtained a search warrant and entered the residence the next day to find the dead dogs along with more than two dozen pit bulls that were so malnourished they had to be carried – as they could not walk on their own, according to the LA Times.

The animals were taken to the The San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus where they are currently under quarantine.
Investigators are searching for the tenant and/or owner of the house who they think may have been a “backyard breeder” – who authorities think may have just abandoned the dogs.

“This is why we encourage people not to buy from someone selling from a parking lot or on Craigslist,” John Welsh, spokesman for the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, told the Times. “You want to go and visit the dogs.”
