Loma Linda University is looking to pay people to eat avocados for a new study. Yes, you read that correctly: you can get paid for eating avocados!
The Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial, or HAT, aims to “answer the question whether eating one avocado daily for six months has an impact on the amount and distribution of fat in the body.”
Researchers at Loma Linda (along with 4 other institutions across the country) are willing to offer up money to 250 people to determine if moderate avocado consumption actually promotes weight loss. Will it work? Who knows. But, you get avocados and money, so I guess it’s worth a shot.
In order to be eligible you must be:
- 25 years of age or older
- Be willing to either eat one avocado per day for six months or eat only two avocados per month for the same period.
- Measure at least 40 inches around the waist if you are male, or measure at least 35 inches around the waist if you are female.
If you are selected you will not only get avocados, but you will also get a free MRI and health screening, a monthly meeting with a dietician, and $300.
