A man was arrested Tuesday after police say he was impersonating a law enforcement officer recently in Yucca Valley.
Z107.7 reports that the 40-year-old suspect stopped a female victim on Sunday afternoon in a Crown Victoria with the words “San Bernardino” on the side.
The man questioned the woman, searched her car, and let her go. The victim said she later got a text message from “Officer Grey” that stated he wished to ask her more questions. The woman contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, who told her that deputies would not next people.
Police received another call about 3 pm on Tuesday from a driver about a fake cop on Highway 62 driving a car with the words “San Bernardino County Sheriff” on the side, that appeared to be on a magnet. The “cop” was dressed in civilian clothes and when the victim asked to see a badge, the man fled.
Police, the real police, quickly located the suspect, Ronald Castaneda of Fontana. He was arrested for investigation of impersonating a police officer.
