About 3 p.m. a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy arrived to a bridge near Ramon Road and Landau Boulevard to find “a good Samaritan…trying to put the man out with a blanket” reports The Desert Sun. The man, who had been fully engulfed in flames, was severely burned and was taken to the Desert Hospital.  He was later flown to a burn center at Lake Arrowhead Medical Center where, as KESQ reports, he died of his injuries.

Authorities tested the substances found under the bridge and found a combination of chemicals that included a methamphetamine-type substance. They believe the fire was accidental.

The man’s name has not been released.
