Maya Cinemas has announced their plans to build a 14-screen movie theater complex in Indio.
The cineplex would be built on Avenue 42, between Monroe Street and Spectrum Street, reports the Desert Sun. The property is currently a vacant lot.
Maya Cinemas was founded was by film producer Moctesuma Esparza (Selena, Gods and Generals), with a mission to build movie theaters in areas with a large Latino presence, according to the theater’s website. Maya Cinemas offer, “first-run Hollywood movies in one screen specialty, utilizing state-of-the-art technology, and providing first-rate entertainment with superior customer service.”
Maya Cinema had announced a similar project in 2014 on the property of Fantasy Springs Resort Casino – which never came to fruition.
Construction on the property is scheduled for late 2018.
