Mayor Rob Moon, a man who loves to read amazing local blogs, recently gave an interview with the CV Independant where he stated that he should have voted yes to firing the overpaid Palm Springs City Manager that he originally wanted to fire before he voted not to fire him. And while that type of strong decisiveness is clearly what everyone wants in a leader, the Mayor could really help his cause by looking up some important info on Google.
When asked about the insane salary of City Manager David Ready (more than the President of the US!) and if there should be a salary cap on the position, the Mayor responded, “That’s probably a good idea…but if there is a cap, perhaps a person who has been around a long time would not like it and would go to work in a big city, like Chicago.”
Now if the Mayor had taken two seconds to look up the “big city” of Chicago, he would have seen that the highest paid city official makes $300,000 or over $120,000 less than Ready makes to run the small, almost village-like Palm Springs.
Armed with this information, a Mayor could then be able to laugh off a threat of a city official claiming they are going to make much more money elsewhere while demanding a raise. This information could also be useful to see that City Managers in San Jose, Austin, and the manager of every city in Greater San Diego all make far less than Palm Springs’ City Manger – which should now seem pretty ridiculous to the now-informed Mayor.
Please Mr. Mayor, look this information up some time…well, when you have time between driving all over the place looking for shoes or reading all of those goddamn emails!
