A Desert Hot Springs woman was arrested Wednesday night after police say she left a 3-month-old baby alone in a car while she shopped at Walmart in Palm Springs.
Police were called to the parking lot at 6:50 pm and found the baby alone in the car, which had the air conditioner running, reports The Desert Sun.
The child had been in the vehicle by himself for at least 20 minutes, but was not harmed.
Police determined that the infant’s mother, 27-year-old Selena Gastelo, had left the infant in the car while she shopped. Gastelo was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment.
Officers told KESQ that they had taken the child into their care until he could be given to a “responsible party.”
