A 25-year-old woman driving two children was pulled over on the 5 freeway in San Clemente on Monday, when police discovered nearly $500,000 worth of cocaine in her car.

The woman, who was not named, was driving a 2001 Honda Accord with two children, a 2-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, as passengers, reports the LA Times.

With the help of a drug sniffing dog, police discovered 14 packets of cocaine – which altogether weighed nearly 40 pounds.

The woman was arrested and her kids were taken to child protective services.

β€œIt is very sad to see innocent children entangled in this shameful attempt to smuggle illicit narcotics,” Thomas Blanks of the San Clemente Border Patrol station said in a release.
