A 25-year-old woman driving two children was pulled over on the 5 freeway in San Clemente on Monday, when police discovered nearly $500,000 worth of cocaine in her car.
The woman, who was not named, was driving a 2001 Honda Accord with two children, a 2-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, as passengers, reports the LA Times.
With the help of a drug sniffing dog, police discovered 14 packets of cocaine – which altogether weighed nearly 40 pounds.
The woman was arrested and her kids were taken to child protective services.
βIt is very sad to see innocent children entangled in this shameful attempt to smuggle illicit narcotics,β Thomas Blanks of the San Clemente Border Patrol station said in a release.
