A mother and daughter were taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle Friday afternoon in Cathedral City.

The crash happened in the area of Cathedral Canyon and Ortega Road about 4:30, according to KESQ. Police told the TV station that a 68-year-old mother and her 14-year old daughter were walking across a crosswalk while it flashed warning lights when they were hit.

The mother was seriously injured, while the daughter was treated for minor injuries.

The driver, identified as a 71-year-old Cathedral City resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Police do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the incident.
