Police have taken one person into custody following the discovery of a body in a Palm Springs hotel room on Saturday.
An employee of the Musicland Hotel called police at about noon on Saturday after doing a welfare check on a room when its occupants failed to check out. A deceased male was in the hotel room bathtub, according to PSPD. The death appeared to be suspicious and an initial investigation revealed the death was a homicide.
After following several leads, a search warrant was served at San Nicholas Ave in Palm Desert. Maciel Rogelio Cruz, 36 was taken into custody, according to PSPD.
Authorities say that Cruz has an extensive criminal history involving violent crimes and narcotics sales. He is currently on Post Release Community Supervision for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Police are continuing to investigate. The relationship between the victim and the person of interest is unknown. The motive for the homicide is also unknown at this time.
