The Palm Desert Planning Commission approved plans for a new development coming to the University Park neighborhood of the city on Tuesday night. The 174 acre development sits just across the street from the campuses of Cal State San Bernardino and UC Riverside.
According to the Desert Sun, there will be a total of 1,069 residential units – with 623 of those being single-family homes, 111 town houses, and a 336-unit apartment complex.
There will also be 17 acres of parks and five miles of looping walking trails in addition to a resident-only private 3.4-acre park, pools, a kid’s play area, pickleball, bocce ball and a fitness area.
Unlike seemingly every other new development in the Coachella Valley, the neighborhood will not be gated.
Construction could begin as early as next year.
