Palm Desert votes 4-1 against e-scooters

Palm Desert, a city that allows golf carts to drive pretty much anywhere they want, voted against a pilot program for e-scooters in the city on Thursday night, according to the Desert Sun.

The 4-1 vote was based on public safety concerns that center on injuries to operators as well as pedestrians, with council members saying the issue is not dead, but the timing is not right.

“This doesn’t mean this is a dead issue,” Mayor Susan Marie Weber said. “It just means that for today’s purposes we’re not willing to do a pilot program.”

So when will the right time be for e-scooters in the city? Well, this is the same city that only recently decided to allow balloons on El Paseo – so, yeah, probably never.
