The Palm Springs City Council – best known for ignoring corruption and insanely high salaries of city officials while killing everything fun – had a little spat this week and it’s seriously a wonder anything at all gets done in the city.
The entire Desert Sun article is worth a read, here are a couple of highlights of a recent meeting, presented completely without context because, even in context, the whole exchange is freakin’ ridiculous.
During a review of council subcommittee appointments, Mayor Rob Moon and Council member Geoff Kors heatedly clashed over who should represent the city on a regional body, with Moon saying it was the duty of a mayor to sit on the board and accusing Kors of thinking of him as “nothing but a ribbon-cutter.”

“I show up. I do my homework. I do what’s expected of me. And I think I well represent this council on these outside organizations,” Moon said. “This is entirely mayors of cities and I was elected mayor of Palm Springs.”
—-
“That is a lie!” Moon exclaimed, and asked for examples.
—-
A somewhat awkward silence ensued before Moon asked if the council wanted to “demean” him and “belittle the position of the mayor of Palm Springs.”

“To take this away from me, as the mayor of Palm Springs, elected by the people of Palm Springs is inappropriate and will make me look…or will be embarrassing to me in the Coachella Valley,” he said, adding it would look bad for both him personally and the role of the mayor in Palm Springs. “I ask you to please not take this away from me.”
Palm Springs. Like no place else.
