Palm Springs High School was victorious on the field Friday night beating Coachella Valley High 46-0, but the joy of victory was fleeting – as when players returned to the locker room, they discovered their stuff had been stolen.
Cash, smartphones, iPods, and headphones were just some of the items missing and players were held in the locker room after the game to answer questions from the Riverside County Sheriffs and Coachella Police.
The break-in is believed to have happened before halftime, when some of the players discovered missing items – so officials were called to investigate. According the The Desert Sun:
Two men who looked like maintenance staff were in the immediate area and were assumed to have locked the door. However, no one could verify if they were school employees and if the door was actually locked because Palm Springs had exited the locker room and taken the field.
Palm Springs senior Riley Hagar, who scored two touchdowns, was one of the players who had items stolen.
“I’m angry, pretty pissed off because I got my Beats (headphones) stolen,” he said. “There was a lot of stuff taken, at least 10 or 15 guys I know got things taken.”
Authorities are investigating.
