‘Forever Marilyn’ could be making its way back to Palm Springs…if city leaders can come up with the money for her.
The 26 foot tall Marilyn Monroe statue, which had been a popular selfie spot for locals, tourists, and (mostly) perverts in Palm Springs for a couple of years is currently on display outside of an art gallery in Australia:
But, maybe not for long. KMIR, who either has amazing timing or is secretly spying on the mayor, has the details:
Mayor Robert Moon said, “Your timing is excellent because just this morning I had a meeting with Aftab Dada from PS Resorts and also Paula Stoke from the Seward Johnson Foundation, and we were discussing bringing Forever Marilyn Back to Palm Springs.”
Mayor Moon says they’re hoping to wrap up negotiations in July.
They can’t give a price tag yet, but are planning on fundraisers to help pay for this as a public-private partnership.
Surprising that fundraisers would be needed, as the city could probably afford the statue with all the money it is giving to shady and nonexistent businesses, but then they wouldn’t get to plan any fundraisers where the mayor could show off his nifty dance moves.
As far as where the statue would go, well that is already set:
“We know exactly where we want to put her, in the new one acre park that’s going to be across from Palm Springs Art Museum. So we have a place for her, and we’re really anxious to get her back.”
Guess we will find out in July.
