Palm Springs man arrested with loaded gun in stolen car

Police arrested a Palm Springs man with a loaded 9mm handgun in a stolen vehicle on Friday.  

The PSPD Communications Center received a 911 call from the owner of a stolen vehicle stating that they spotted their car in the area of South and East Palm Canyon Drive about 2 pm, according to a release from the PSPD.

Officers located the vehicle leaving the Desert Lodge Motel. They tried to pull over the man driving the vehicle, but he refused and a a short pursuit began.

After about a quarter of a mile, the car hit a curb and the suspect fled on foot. After a brief chase, police arrested the suspect, who was identified as 24-year-old Nicholas Young – who was also wanted by PSPD for a recent hit and run incident from November 20th where police say he discharged a firearm in the air after the victim’s of the hit and run took photos of his vehicle.

Authorities searched the vehicle and found a loaded 9mm handgun.

Young was booked into the Riverside County Sheriff Southwest Detention Center on six felony charges.
