Welp, so much for the fall weather in The Coachella Valley. This weekend is going to be hotter than normal – with temps reaching the triple digits because, well, ugh. But, that doesn’t mean you have to stay in and binge watch Netflix all weekend (though, now that I think about it, watching Narcos all day is not a bad Saturday) as there are quite a few things going on.
If you choose to head outside this weekend, here are 5 things you might want to check out before you head home to watch the season premiere of Walking Dead Sunday night:
Joshua Tree Music Festival
The community of Joshua Tree is eclectic, so naturally their music festival would be too – with acts like Xavier Rudd & The United Nations, Turkuaz, and Moon Hooch.
The event has been going on since Wednesday at the Joshua Tree Lake Campground and continues through Sunday with passes ranging from $75 to $400.
Paint El Paseo Pink
The annual fundraiser to raise money for breast cancer screenings and diagnostics for the uninsured and underinsured women and men in The Coachella Valley kicks off at 9:30 a.m. (with registration at 8 a.m.).
Desert Cancer Foundation and the Suzanne Jackson Breast Cancer Program have funded early detection services for more than 6,000 Coachella Valley residents.
Everything gets started at the Gardens on El Paseo with a ceremony and then participants will cruise around El Paseo in pink shirts.
Love Jam
Brenton Wood’s Love Jam takes over Spotlight 29 Casino on Saturday night. The “Oogun Boogum” singer will be joined by host Candyman (“Knockin’ Boots”), Peaches and Herb (“Reunited”), Atlantic Starr (“Secret Lovers”), GQ “Disco Nights (Rock-Freak)”, Rose Royce (“Car Wash”), and Zapp Band (“I Wanna Get Next To You”).
The night gets started at 8 p.m. with tickets going for $40 to $60.
Modernism Preview Weekend
The double decker buses will be cruising around Palm Springs again this weekend as Modernism Week’s Fall Preview takes place. Events include a vintage car show, home tours, a chance to check out Sunnylands, and a bunch of parties. Events go through Monday (which is a holiday for some, who knew?)
You can see a run down of all of the events here.
Daniel Tosh
The Fifth Annual Tosh Saves the World Charity Show rolls into The McCallum Theater (which should have people under the age of 80 at a show for a change).
Tosh will be joined by fellow comics Ian Edwards, Tom Papa, Greg Hahn and Lachlan Patterson for a fundraiser for various charities. Showtime is 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. All tickets are $75.
Have a great weekend.
