CalTrans is closing down a section of Highway 243 beginning tomorrow, Friday, December 7 at 9 am. The closure location, just northwest of Lake Fulmor, will be a total shutdown in both directions, 24/7, until the work is completed.
In a press release, CalTrans stresses that it is indeed a “24 hour a day operation” and that “traffic will not be allowed to cross.” Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.
The road is being shutdown for emergency culvert repairs.
If you are planning on heading to Idyllwild (And why not? There’s tons of snow in the mountains!), you will want to head up Highway 74 (from Palm Desert) and take the open portion of Highway 243 into town.
You can stay on top of the latest with the roadwork here.
