A 50-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle in Cathedral City Monday night.

The collision happened a little after 7 pm near the intersection of Ramon and Crossley, according to a news release from the Cathedral City Police Deptartment (via KESQ). The man was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Officers determined that the man was not in a crosswalk or near an intersection when he attempted to cross the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and police do not believe drugs or alcohol was a factor.
