A man was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday morning on the 10 Freeway just east of Indian Canyon Drive.

The collision happened a little before 5 am, reports the Desert Sun. Witnesses told the paper the man was struck by a big rig that fled the scene. This account has not been confirmed by police.

One lane of the freeway was closed until 8:30 am while officers investigated.
The death is the first pedestrian death in the Coachella Valley in 2018. Last year saw 13 pedestrian deaths which was down from 29 in 2016.
